Flat Stanley goes Air Force
An Air Force C-17 Globemaster III crewmember shows Flat Stanley listening to pilot communications during a flight Feb. 24 to Luke Air Force Base, Ariz. Brig. Gen. Suzanne Vautrinot, Air Force Recruiting Service commander, and her husband Bill Keller received a letter in February from their niece, Nikki, containing the paper doll. Nikki requested the couple assist her with a second-grade project by taking Flat Stanley with them on trips and writing to her about the doll’s adventures. Since 1995, the Flat Stanley Project has become a popular way for teachers to instruct letter writing, inspire reading and introduce elementary students to geography. (U.S. Air Force photo)
